TRAINER SPOTLIGHT Featuring…Jason Everhart of BB&T Corporation
Teller Trainers are the backbone of retail banking, so in this issue of our eNewsletter we are featuring Jason Everhart, Senior Curriculum Developer for BB&T Corporation based in Winston-Salem, NC.
When asked what he loves most about his job, his response was “Technology, especially in training, has always been one of my interests. With BB&T moving more toward training using technology, I am afforded the opportunity to be involved with projects and curriculum development focusing on the distance learner; TellerSolution® being one such example. I feel like our focus on using technology inside and outside of the classroom is one of the keys to our continued success in training successful employees.”
Jason’s career in banking encompasses 12 years banking experience as teller, relationship banker, private banker, classroom trainer, and curriculum developer. Eight years has been with BB&T Corporation.
Jason’s dedication to helping associates advance in the banking industry and his desire to see employees who enjoy their jobs, are eager to learn and want to make banking their career has led him and BB&T Corporation to incorporate TellerSolution® into their curriculum. “With the implementation of TellerSolution®, we reduced training time by 1 week making the Teller Fundamentals program a 2-week course. During Week 1 trainees take TellerSolution® modules each morning followed by a webinar review and additional online instruction with a BB&T University Operations Instructor in the afternoon. Participants complete transaction processing modules that are part of TellerSolution® and simulate the bank’s teller system as well as observe branch personnel to become familiar with their various roles. Week 1 ends with an assessment through TellerSolution® of the material covered in the training modules. Week 2 is spent with the BB&T University-trained Teller Mentor who reinforces the policy and procedure training from Week 1.”
“With the introduction of the new Teller training program, the overall training time has been cut resulting in faster but more efficient on-boarding of new tellers as well as greater cost savings because of reduced time spent with the mentor. The delivery of training information is now more consistent among all tellers and definitely more interactive. Additionally, we will be using TellerSolution® to cross-train our Financial Center Managers and Relationship Bankers in the Teller role beginning fourth quarter 2007.”
“My banking career began as a teller with a different financial institution while in college. After graduating from NC State in 1997, I joined another small bank in North Carolina where I worked in an in-store branch which involved everything from being a teller to retail lending. I also managed this branch for a period of time before my departure in mid-1999.
I began with BB&T in Winston-Salem in July 1999 as a Relationship Banker, managing a portfolio of Elite clients. In late 2000, I transferred to Raleigh, N.C., after accepting a position in Private Banking. Approximately two years later in August 2002, a training opportunity presented itself in Winston-Salem and I joined Payment Protection Services, a department within our Direct Retail Lending group, to build a training program and be the sole trainer for the entire BB&T footprint, which is primarily in Southeast and mid-Atlantic states. In September 2005, I joined BB&T University as a Curriculum Developer with the Operations Training team and was recently promoted to Senior Curriculum Developer.”
Jason loves event planning and home projects – anything that involves logistics and planning.
